How to Aggregate Your Google +1′ Count in 4 Easy Steps

Even if you hate Google+ and are avoiding it like the plague, the reality is that millions of users are logged into their Google accounts while searching for your product or service. That means their search results are highly personalized for them, including the social extensions +1 numeric counts. Bigger is better, so in this article you’ll find out how to aggregate your +1 counts so that when a user sees any page of your site in the search results or in an ad, the total number of +1′s will show up in the count!

How to Aggregate your Google +1 Counts

Before we dive down to the 4 easy steps, let’s remember why we care. Google’s concept is nice. When viewing search results and even the ads that show up from banner ads, it would be nice to know if your friends in your ‘circles’ also like that company and have interacted with them before. So Google shows the number of +1′s next to the domain name and even next to the banner ads.

The problem is that if you don’t setup your Adwords account correctly, users will only see the number of +1′s for that specific URL associated with the search result or ad. What all of us want is to appear bigger than we really are! In the case of the Google +1 bigger is better scheme, we want to show users the aggregated number of +1′s from our entire website, not only from that specific page!

In order to make this happen, it only takes 4 easy steps:

  1. Setup your Google+ business page. You can do that here: http://plus.google.com/pages/create
  2. Add the +1 button to every page of your website. Find the code here: http://www.google.com/webmasters/+1/button/
  3. Setup and Adwords account if you don’t already have one, then on the Ad Extensions tab click on Social Extensions
  4. Then apply this to all campaigns and then enter Google+ business page URL

Wallah! You’re done. You’ve not super-sized your +1′s on Google’s search network. Enjoy :)
